PORTMAN PRIZE FINALIST
THE ART NEXUS
SPRING 2024
The studio focused on designing and planning 1.2 million sqft of space for an Arts Square on the Georgia Tech campus. The project delved into understanding the site as a sectional intervention space.
The design for the art center unfolds along State Street in two phases (Phase 01 and Phase 03), establishing a prominent axis as a spine. With a total area of 400,000 sqft, the project is phased to activate the site in the initial phase, serving as a catalyst for other programs and gradually evolving into an art square.
It delves into understanding the essential connections between Georgia Tech, its students, and the arts as a whole. The massing and spatial arrangements are crafted to reflect architectonics sustainability and the provision of long-span functional spaces. It revolves around the idea of an axis along State Street and a transparent ground place activated for the public.
The Process.
The process started with initial sectional sketches to understand the concept of "Spine" that connects the State St. In addition, an attempt to understand the idea of phasing for the project was envisioned along with the sectional spine.
The project started as urban intervention gradually going towards the architecture and tectonics of the "Arts Center"
